Alternator Clutch Pulleys

Most modern alternators come with what is generally known as a freewheeling clutch pulley. The idea is that the locks in one direction, and freewheels in the other direction. The problem is that they frequently fail, by either freewheeling both ways, locking both ways, or falling apart.

It is not uncommon for this to happen in a vehicle that has done as little as fifty thousand miles. We stock lots of new pulleys, and we have the necessary tools to fit them in our workshop. It’s not a spanner and vice job as it was in the old days, the special tools vary according to the type of alternator and pulley.

Some companies will tell you which pulley you need from the vehicle details, but that is not foolproof, as there are often different makes of alternators on the same vehicle and the pulleys are not all the same. You can rely on Burghfield Starter & Alternator Centre for quality products at affordable prices. We also offer top-quality Hi-torque starter motors and batteries
